Polnota prirody — i zhiveĭshiĭ dialog, zvuk, rechʹ, tochnye slova», — pisal Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn. V nastoiashchee izdanie vkliuchena takzhe povestʹ «Posledniĭ srok» (1970). V pronzitelʹnoĭ istorii prostoĭ russkoĭ zhenshchiny, ee poslednikh dniakh na ėtoĭ zemle vo vseĭ polnote nashli otrazhenie takie kachestva Valentina Rasputina, kak «sosredotochennoe uglublenie v sutʹ veshcheĭ, chutkaia sovestʹ i nenaviazchivoe tselomudrie, stolʹ redkoe v nashi dni» (A. Solzhenitsyn).
Valentin Grigoryevich Rasputin is an outstanding Russian writer, whose writings have become classics of Russian literature, one of the brightest and most significant representatives of "village prose". "Farewell to Mother" (1976) is a poignant story about the flooding of villages for the sake of the grandiose construction of the Bratsk hydroelectric power station on the bank of the Angara River. The island of Matera, along with birches and pines, a "swamp with a frog", along with a village and a cemetery, should go to the bottom of the artificial sea, among other things. The elderly, who find it difficult to accept the destruction of their native graves, the huts in which they were born, and the entire habitual way of life, firmly connected with their Mother, cannot imagine their existence without the island inhabited for centuries. "How many feelings there are about the native land, its eternity. The fullness of nature — and the most lively dialogue, sound, speech, exact words," wrote Alexander Solzhenitsyn. This edition also includes the novel "The Last Term" (1970). In the poignant story of a simple Russian woman, her last days on this earth, such qualities of Valentin Rasputin as "concentrated insight into the essence of things, a sensitive conscience and unobtrusive chastity, so rare these days," are fully reflected (A. Solzhenitsyn).
