Walden McGregor is a student, he studies, travels with friends, works part-time at a gas station and writes a paper about the historical roots of Celtic myths. His own family history also goes back centuries: after all, Walden's ancestors belonged to an ancient Scottish clan, from which the legendary hero Rob Roy came out. Walden spent his childhood in Scotland, in a secluded estate "Royal Fishing", where his beloved grandfather and father remained. And now he lives in Oxford – with his mother, stepfather, brother and sister. The past beckons him: he knows and loves family traditions, has been composing stories about a Lonely Knight since childhood, is passionately fond of historical reconstruction and fencing. And Walden is also trying to sort out his feelings for his parents, who once separated him from his brother during the divorce. Meeting with a young clown Joe, a Russian student of the Guildhall School of Music and Theater, helps him to take a new and loving look at the world around him and at his own family. The new book by Maria Pasternak, whose historical novel "The Gold of Hravna" has already won the sympathy of readers, speaks to us about modernity, but the past of the protagonist, his family turns out to be the most important participant in the events. After all, the future sprouts from the past, and only from it.
