The collection includes three stories by the famous St. Petersburg writer Valery Popov: 'My History of the Motherland', 'We are Not Slaves' and 'Everyday Life of the Harem'. They are united by a nostalgic theme, an appeal to the "time of change", tectonic shifts in society, which appear in the book through the private stories of the characters. The author's ironic and at the same time soft intonation is alien to pathos, sometimes everyday events reach a real grotesque in his narrative, and dramatic episodes are intertwined with comic ones. The narrator may laugh at himself and his companions, but he manages to talk about everything with wisdom and calmness.
