When the old house is destroyed, the builders find in the basement the mummified body of a young girl who has lain there for about sixty years. Judging by the location of the remains, she was stabbed during some occult ritual. Tony McLean, detective inspector of the Edinburgh Police, understands that it is almost impossible to solve a case of such a long time ago, but still cannot forget about it in any way. Meanwhile, a series of bloody murders is taking place in the city. The investigation quickly comes to a dead end, since there is no clear evidence, no motives either, and the victims are not related to each other in any way, although a part of one or another internal organ was removed from each. McLean is convinced that all these events are somehow intertwined. He has only guesses, indirect evidence of his theory, but it will lead him to a collision with a terrible and very ancient secret.
