On June 21, 1941 Alexander Tvardovsky was 31 years, and the next day started the Great Patriotic war. On 23 June he was appointed on the South-Western front, the 25th departed to the place of destination, and on the 26th, he sent his wife off the road the first letter... Maria Illarionovna Twardowska preserved all received during the war letters from her husband. All of them 139. Written with the utmost sincerity the closest person in different years and in different environments, they now can be read as a novel about the life of a family separated by war. In the letters many lines about love, about family ties, particularly important "in the hard hours of native land". They anxieties, doubts, hopes, experience apart. The poet is revealed here as a husband and as a father with organically inherent sense of responsibility for the family, they themselves created, and for the family from which he came. We vividly see in the letters and the story of the creation of the poem "Vasily Terkin" from conception to maturation difficulties of promoting a book to the reader.
