"The Five who are waiting for you in heaven" is the debut novel by Mitch Albom, which has become a worldwide bestseller: the circulation has exceeded 14 million copies. The book was on the New York Times bestseller list for 95 weeks and has been translated into 35 languages. The plot centers on the story of Eddie, a technician who runs an amusement park. At the cost of his own life, he saves a girl during an amusement ride breakdown. After death, the hero meets the souls of five people — those who influenced his fate, and those whose lives he influenced. Each meeting reveals to Eddie new, unexpected meanings of his, as it seemed to him before, ordinary existence. This is how a deep reflection on the value of each day unfolds before the reader. The work touches on important themes such as forgiveness, love, and the interconnectedness of human destinies. The novel shows how imperceptibly and bizarrely the lives of different people intertwine and what a mark each of us leaves in the fate of others. The book is known not only for its literary success: in 2004, its film adaptation was released, which attracted almost 19 million viewers; the main role in the film was played by Oscar-winning John Voight."The Five who are Waiting for you in heaven" is often put on a par with another famous work by Albom, "Tuesdays with Morrie." The stylish design and user-friendly format make the publication attractive to fans of modern prose, and the philosophical depth and emotional power of the narrative make it possible to classify the novel as one of the significant works about the meaning of life.
