This edition contains five books from Gonzalo M. Tavares' Quartier cycle. Their heroes are "gentlemen" who bear the names of famous writers and poets. These are not biographies or literary portraits, but independent characters, each with their own way of thinking, seeing the world and dealing with reality. Mr. Calvino tests the imagination for strength, Mr. Valeri brings logic to the point of absurdity, Mr. Brecht tells parables in which the ridiculous imperceptibly turns into cruelty, Mr. Juarros searches for philosophical order in the most ordinary things, and in the story of Mr. Walser, the dream of perfect order collides with reality, which does not obey this order. These books have no common plot.: They consist of small stories, drawings, and thought experiments that can be read in a row or individually. This is a book about our attempts to understand and organize the world — and about how fragile these attempts are. Logic slips into the absurd, imagination changes reality, the cruel appears behind the ridiculous, and the most carefully constructed order cannot withstand the encounter with life.
