The lyrical and emotional narrative is based on real events of the 1950s, when destitute and orphaned children from Great Britain were sent to emigrate to the colonies, where they were promised a heavenly life under the warm sun. But the reality turns out to be completely different: barefoot and half-naked, hungry and cold, under the yoke of cruel guards, the students are forced to work on the farm from morning to night, overcoming pain and resentment.
