The touching story of a slave girl who had to go through many trials before finding the long-awaited freedom and happiness with her loved one is well known all over the world. The novel by the Brazilian writer Bernardo Guimaraes (1875), imbued with the pathos of protecting human dignity, once struck readers with the sharpness and relevance of the topic: slavery in Brazil was abolished only thirteen years after the publication of the novel. Under the influence of the book and the warm sympathy for its main character, in many Brazilian families the girls were given the name Isaura. A hundred years later, the novel by Bernardo Guimaraes formed the basis of a television series (1976), which was shown with great success in different countries. Since then, the novel "The Slave Isaura" has become a cult: readers are attracted to it not only by the authentic life and customs of provincial Brazil in the middle of the 19th century, but also by the happy ending — the triumph of a pure and noble soul.
