Segodni͡a my mnogoe znaem o nasheĭ Vselennoĭ i o tom meste, kotoroe zanimaet v neĭ Zemli͡a. Odnako otkuda nam ėto izvestno? S kakikh por? Kakim obrazom nashe videnie mira proshlo putʹ ot tikhoĭ i malenʹkoĭ Vselennoĭ, kotorui͡u videli li͡udi Antichnosti, do ėtogo gigantskogo i postoi͡annogo izmeni͡ai͡ushchegosi͡a kosmosa? Ėta kniga rasskazyvaet o Galileo Galilee i drugikh velikikh li͡udi͡akh, kotorye iskali novye, bolee tochnye otvety i "videli" to, chto nikto i nikogda ne videl do nikh. O li͡udi͡akh, kotorye nabli͡udali, sozdavali, izmeri͡ali, izuchali, puteshestvovali, stradali ot kholoda, riskovali sobstvennoĭ zhiznʹi͡u… i pytalisʹ naĭti vozmozhnye obʺi͡asnenii͡a.

Today we know a lot about our universe and the place that the Earth occupies in it. However, how do we know this? Since when? How did our vision of the world go from the quiet and small universe that people of Antiquity saw to this gigantic and constantly changing cosmos? This book tells the story of Galileo Galilei and other great men who searched for new, more accurate answers and "saw" things that no one had ever seen before. About people who observed, created, measured, studied, traveled, suffered from the cold, risked their own lives... and tried to find possible explanations.
