Shalimar the Clown is one of Salman Rushdie's best novels. In this story full of love, passion, pain, and tragedy, the four main characters are former U.S. Ambassador to India Max Ophals, his daughter India, her mother Bunyi, and her husband Nomar, whom everyone calls Shalimar. But Kashmir, the disputed region of Hindustan that India and Pakistan are fighting over, plays a crucial role in the narrative. Different countries flash by, people of different nationalities and faiths are trying to figure out who they really are, they want to find happiness, to find paradise lost. – From the Booker Prize winner and author of the world bestseller "Midnight's Children".– A dramatic story of love and betrayal, rooted in an ethnic conflict.– The life vicissitudes of the novel's characters make you think about the limits of freedom.– A filigree work by a master of intellectual prose.– An ideal choice for fans of books with a large-scale plot and emotional depth.
