Norwegian writer Sigrid Unseth (1882-1949) was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature "for her perfect portrayal of the Norwegian Middle Ages." The historical trilogy "Kristin, daughter of Lavrans" takes place in medieval Norway. In the center of the narrative is the life story of Kristin, the daughter of a respected and wealthy owner of the Jørundgård estate, who tied the knot with the frivolous knight Erlend. This is a story about love and loyalty, and the high price that sometimes you have to pay for the fulfillment of desires. The book includes the first part of a trilogy called "The Crown" (1920). It tells about Kristin's childhood and growing up, her family, as well as her sudden passion for the knight Erlendur, who is destined to play a fatal role in her life. Kristin lived in Jørundgård as Erlendur's legal fiancee.
