Late in the evening, journalist Ben Harper returns home to the London suburb of Hadley when he notices that the abandoned club at the local church is on fire. He sees the figure of a man in the doorway and rushes to his aid. Saved from the fire — it is impossible to recognize him in the smoke and flames — he immediately runs away.
