After the alien visit, Zones are formed on Earth —areas full of unexplained anomalies, deadly traps and mysterious, but often useful artifacts.Stalkers gather around pretty quickly — courageous and reckless people who risk their lives by going to the Zone — often illegally — for another "swag".Perhaps, in the history of modern world fiction, there are not so many works that have remained popular for such a long time as "Picnic by the Roadside". The story served as the basis for Tarkovsky's cult film "Stalker"; three decades later, an equally iconic computer game with the same name and a whole series of novellas and novels written using the world of "Picnic" appeared.
